Crossing Guard Information

Thank you so much for volunteering as a crossing guard! We are so grateful for your commitment to our school. It's only 20 minutes per week, but it has a big impact on the safety of our kiddos.

  1. Volunteer application required:

To volunteer in any capacity at Coal Creek, you must complete the BVSD Volunteer Agreement Form. Even if you've volunteered in the past, you must submit a new form for the new school year. Please return this form to the front office.

  2. Raptor background check required:

Since you aren't directly supervised by a school employee, you must complete a BVSD Raptor Background Check in order to volunteer for this position. Once approved, it's valid for one year — so check your expiration date if you've done this in the past. Please let our Volunteer Coordinators know if the $25 fee presents a financial hardship that would prevent you from participating.

  3. Read the handbook:

Please review these guidelines, created by the police department, to ensure that crossing guards can safely serve our community.

  4. Find your equipment:

There's a bench in the foyer of the school, directly across from the lost and found. Inside the bench, you'll find orange vests and stop signs to use during your shifts. Please return them when done.

  5. Get a sub when needed:

If you can't make one of your shifts, just let Sabrina Maldonado by email (maldonado.sabrina17@gmail.com) or text (303-803-3857). Please provide as much advance warning as possible.

  6. Confirm your contact info:

Sabrina uses a Google Sheet to manage shifts and arrange subs. Please ensure your contact information is up-to-date.

Again, thank you for volunteering for this important role and for helping to keep our kids safe!
