JOG-A-THON

Money Raised: $38,000

Jog-a-thon is back Fri, Sept 29!

For those of you new to Coal Creek, this is our major fundraiser for the school. 100% of the money raised is used to give students the resources they need and deserve like extra educational support, field trips, supplies, and more! Our goal this year is to raise $45,000 ( that's $150 per student).

Donations can be made via Paypal in the form on this page OR via cash or check made out to Coal Creek PTA and submitted in the school office or at the Jogathon. All donations to Coal Creek PTA are tax deductible.  Receipts can be provided for donations over $250. Send questions and requests to CoalCreekElementaryPTA@gmail.com

Consider getting creative in raising money for this event:

  • Get pledges per lap of running or a flat fee donation from friends, neighbors, and grandparents.

  • Go door-to-door requesting donations.

  • Hold a lemonade stand or bake sale to support the school.

  • Make a family donation.

  • Don't forget to ask your employer if they will match your donation!

More information on the programs your donations will help fund.

Thank you!

What is PTA?

The Coal Creek Parent Teacher Association (PTA) is a member of the Colorado PTA and National PTA organizations.  The PTA is made up of parents, teachers, and our principal who choose to join by paying annual membership dues. We work together to provide a quality scholastic experience for all Coal Creek students and to make Coal Creek Elementary an excellent school for our community.

The PTA uses family events, community activities, and business sponsorships to raise funds for Coal Creek. The PTA funds many projects including: special education instruction, talented and gifted instruction, literacy support, para-educator hours, teaching tools in the classrooms, buses for field trips, the annual science fair, classroom books and supplies, copy machine and workroom supplies, funding for substitute teachers, professional development, and more.

All members of the Coal Creek community are welcome and encouraged to attend PTA meetings. School needs and budget issues are discussed and voted on by membership in an online vote. This is your chance to influence just how PTA funds are put to work in your child’s school!

What is the Raise it or Write it Jog-A-Thon?

This will be our major fundraising campaign run by the PTA. In the month of September we will hold a Jog-A-Thon as a community celebration.  It’s an opportunity for students to get involved in the fundraising while doing something healthy. On the Jogathon day, each grade level will spend 20 minutes jogging or skipping or walking or cartwheeling around the Coal Creek Elementary field. Students are invited to collect pledges from friends, family members, and neighbors. Through these pledges, our goal is for each student to raise our yearly goal. This is the “Raise It” portion of the campaign. Some parents prefer to write a check themselves to Coal Creek (this is the “Write It” portion of the campaign). Please ask if your company does matching gifts. This could double your donation!

This will be THE major fundraiser of the school year.

Coal Creek is a public school. Why are our taxes not enough?

Believe it or not, school taxes in the state of Colorado are not high relative to other states. In addition, Colorado Public Education ranks 43rd in the nation in per pupil spending (adjusted for regional cost differences). Also, Colorado is 41st in median student-teacher ratio in primary level schools. Our PTA is a 501(c)(3) organization established to advocate for all students and raise funds for the needed programs that the District and State cannot provide. Fundraising is a necessity if we are to maintain the high quality education our students deserve. (source: https://www.greateducation.org/statistics-faqs/statistics/)

How does the PTA decide what to spend money on?

The PTA works with the parents, principal, teachers and staff to determine school needs and funding opportunities. Every spring, the PTA board presents a proposed budget to the membership for a vote.  Spending outside of the annual budget process can be approved by membership vote during the year.  The PTA welcomes your participation in the budget discussion and direction of the PTA focus to maintain Coal Creek as a school of excellence.

Looking at the PTA Budget, 47% of these funds are spent on direct Student Support including Special Ed, Literacy, TAG, Paraeducator and more. Coal Creek teachers believe the opportunity for small groups and one-on-one instruction make a measurable and immediate difference in your child’s education.  Another 18% provides resource materials and supplies for classrooms and specials, 14% funds Professional Development, Substitute teachers, and small projects, 9% funds the copy machine and workroom supplies, 5% supplies Buses for Field trips, and the remaining 7% goes towards administration expenses (taxes, websites, volunteer and staff appreciation, etc).

How did Coal Creek arrive at the donation amount per child?

The average amount is based on the PTA Budget and the anticipated enrollment at Coal Creek for the school year. However, we encourage families to donate what they can and feel comfortable doing to support their child's education.

Can grandparents, aunts, uncles and friends give also?

Yes! Coal Creek parents are encouraged to mention the campaign to other family members, neighbors, and friends to reach their individual goal. They can write a check to Coal Creek PTA or give through the PayPal option.

How does this compare to other Louisville schools?

Here are what some other schools within Boulder Valley are looking to raise per student:

Fireside:  $150

Louisville: $200

Douglass:  $300

Superior: $200

Bear Creek:  $300

Peak to Peak (Charter): $1000

How do I give to the Raise it or Write it Jog-A-Thon?

Giving is easy!

  • Donate to a student who is collecting pledges for the Jog-A-Thon.

  • Write a check payable to Coal Creek PTA at any time.

  • Donate online here. We use PayPal, a well-known and reputable site for online giving. This secure site is available for anyone wishing to put their donation on a credit card or to use their personal PayPal account.

  • Check to see if your company matches employee donations to nonprofit organizations.

Why is the Raise it or Write it Jog-A-Thon in September and not later in the year?

We realize there are a lot of beginning-of-school year expenses. However, funds are necessary for PTA budget commitments in the year they are raised. Therefore, the money raised from this campaign begins funding classroom support immediately, and it is needed in the beginning of the year. The early time frame also gives the PTA enough time to plan any additional fundraisers that may be needed later in the school year if we fail to reach our goal. Of course folks are always welcome to give to Coal Creek’s PTA (a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization) at any time of the year. We will send you a receipt for your tax records.

If I still have questions or would like to help, who should I contact?

The  PTA Board welcomes your questions and feedback. Please feel free to contact one or all of us. All discussions will be kept confidential.
